• Environmental Science B.S. Bridgewater College, Virginia
Expected Graduation: May 2016
Environmental consulting & urban planning/design
Haley is interested in environmental consulting and urban planning/design. She holds a passion for design and intends to implement conservation into her future work. She is dedicated to sustainable development, having seen negligent practices at home.
While at school, she works for the recycling program and cares for wolf spiders in the biology department. This summer, she spent most of her time conducting research on the effects of mercury on longnose dace (Rhinichthys cataractae) behavior in two Virginia rivers. She is supposedly the first person to have used a 3D-printed model of a fish in their research.
Haley grew up in Matthews, North Carolina and has a younger brother. Together, they enjoy traveling with their family out west and teaching their dog, Kirby, new tricks. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, cycling, and painting with watercolor.
During her time at the Smithsonian, she hopes to learn and acquire additional skills through her field work that will guide her towards becoming part of an environmental consulting or design team. Additionally, she looks forward to meeting some great professors and fellow students.

Hey farmer farmer
Put away the DDT
I don't care about spots on my apples
Leave me the birds and the bees
Please!
